Steel Valley Senior High School Reviews

I have a daughter who attends this school. I am so dissatisfied with the quality of education she is receiving. Taxes are so high in Munhall and we do not see any proof that our money goes to improvements in the school. We don't even have bus transportation. The school health office is a disgrace. The nurse is too busy with clerical work that she can't give the time and attention to our children that she requires. The school is too involved with improvements to the athletics department and not in the education of the children.

Steel Valley High School continuously strives to offer rigorous, academically-rich curriculum, competing well with the more affluent communities of the south hills. Test scores are improving each school year, many students continue their post-secondary education at local colleges and institutions, and a variety of challenging AP courses are offered. There are many extra-curricular offerings in sports, music, clubs, etc. The school continues to enhance and upgrade its facilities, with a new middle school gymnasium, renovated auditorium, and new electronic entrance sign for 2007. With increased revenue from The Waterfront, renovation of older and historical homes in the community, building of new homes, and a reasonable millage rate, the district is showing and will continue to show remarkable improvement! Steel Valley students get a solid education and are well-prepared for a 21st century, technology-rich workforce.

Steel Valley provides the opportunity for all children to achieve academically and socially. They have a quality staff. Parent and community involvement needs to be stronger but those who are involved do a wonderful job keeping the school a priority.

Steel Valley's educational program is sincerly lacking any substance. The music program lacks but only because of lack of student maturity and interest. However, the sporting program thrives due to much money and effort put into keeping these students safe from being suspended, or punished, as well as much money being spent on the football field instead of educational items. there is unlimited access to mulitiple computer labs, however the library is in desperate need of an update. You have to want to do well and some times even that is not enough.

I beleave that the teachers should pay more attention to what goes on in the classroom, they should keep a good eye out for bullying that goes around in the classroom and do something about it unlike some teachers that let it go through one ear and out the other, stuff like that should not be left alone, because stuff like bullying can cause alot of problems with the kid that is being picked on. I feel that they should have more activities for the students like mabe track, a lacross team, or make up some activities. They need a better resolution on bullying, and come up with a better plan to keep the school a bully free zone.
